What are these... cards?

I opened steam just now and I got a message that 4 new items were in my inventory. I am apparently the proud owner of 2 federation cruisers, one "foil" federation cruiser, and a mantis cruiser. What are these? I haven't heard anything about this until now.

I think it's also important to add that if you don't care about the bonuses you get from crafting a game badge with the cards (search "game badge" on the faq), you can sell them on the steam market for some cents each, which you can use for future steam purchases. It may not seem like much but if you do this for cards across multiple games, it racks up. You'll have to set up steam mobile authenticator to sell them unless you're okay with waiting 15 days. Also, it looks like you were lucky enough to get a "foil" trading card which I think is more valuable than regular cards because of its rarity.
