Re: Slipstream Mod Manager v1.6 (2014-10-25)
This doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm on Linux. Every time I try to open the application, nothing happens. I can see it's on in the taskbar but it will close out after a couple of seconds. I've tried reinstalling Java multiple times and trying earlier versions of the mod but it will never work.

I'm using ubuntu, and running the cli.ish file or the command file comes up not finding Java, how can I direct to my Java installation?

the links for 1.6 seem to be working fine for me... must be a problem on your end. if you want I could upload one to Mediafire and see if that works?
github has uncompiled source code, most probably useful for software developers (to see how it works)

Confirmed, links still work. But, is SMM the only way? I'm really not too keen on installing Java. I've scoured these forums for another option, and came up empty. I just wanted to use that Serenity.flt someone posted on Nexus.

Just install Java. Don't install anything else it suggests you get installed. As in, don't download that toolbar and change your home page. People still use those?

No, I'm not talking about bundled software or toolbars in the installer. (Has anyone ever said, "Hey, where can I get that great toolbar?" Ever?!) I was just wondering if there was a (relatively) simple way to mod the data for this one ship without using the SMM. As I said, I don't want to install Java. I don't like Java. No me gusta Java. The JRE is not for me.

The old grognaks mod manager is in python IIRC, but some mods may not work, I'm not sure which features were only added in slipstream (append file should be fine, some advanced tags won't work). Bare repacker (ftldat) is also around in that language, but translating a mod to work with that would take a little (to a lot, depending) work.
Or just install java in a VM or something, you just need to alter the files, then you can put them back on your real PC. Probably don't even need to install the game, just the resources folder.
@edit
That mod manager is pre-AE, though, no idea if it even works.

You say you only want some way to mod a single ship but what if you want to mod in another one? Or play Captain's Edition? Or both.
What if you pick up Minecraft?
It's not like Java will take over your computer and render it unplayable. And those statistics they throw out there seem to indicate that it's not too dodgy. Sleazy, yes (again Ask, and Toolbars. Just say no) but not dodgy.
Theeeeen again I'm the same person who complains about how I don't want to download a third party program to play Endless Loot (Captain's Edition addition) because it'd be like using a nuclear reactor to power a toaster because I can't plug in anything else to the current building... but if someone else releases a pack similar in scope and scale to Endless Loot, I might consider it.
When it comes to FTL, you never just say "I want to play this one mod."
You'll want the Java so you can run Slipstream and any other program that might use Java.
