Do I need Internet to play FTL?

As it says above, I want FTL but I will be losing my Internet soon and want to know before I buy it if I can play without Internet.

If you purchase the Steam copy, you may run into trouble because of Steam's dodgy "offline" mode. However if you purchase the DRM-free version from the Humble Store (that is, directly from the ftlgame.com website), then you can run it just fine with or without internet.

Kieve is absolutely right.
If you buy game from Humble Store (through ftlgame.com) or gog.com - you'll be ok. You can redeem it on steam, if you buy from Humble Store (if steam matters to you).
Humble Store provides DRM-free Linux, Mac and Windows versions of the game. GOG provides Mac and Windows versions, DRM-free too.

I got it off the FTl site not gog or steam, I would have gotten it with steam but money tight so I needed to save for x-mas, it was that or Internet, and I would not have lived it down with the family.

If you want to add it to your steam library you can do it for free. Go to Humble Bundle site, register, then 'claim' game (you can do it on link, you've got when bought game). Then in your Humble Store account choose FTL from library and there you'll find option to get steam key.
