Boarding Drone Incredibly Dissapointing.

Post by Al_Ka_Pwn »

I was really stoked to use the new boarding drones in action and see how they perform. Not only do they create a breach they also kill crew members? They seemed so awesome. Boy was I wrong. Not only can you not target what room you want them to hit, they don't move from whatever room they land in, they're more than happy to sit in a totally empty room not doing anything but eating up 3 power doing nothing but looking dumb. At the very least I figured they'd move through the ship on their own and kill stuff but they just sit there, and to top it all off they die to 2 humans.

Ugh most disappointing weapon in the game.

It may be disappointing to use, but the bloody things are absolutely dire when the enemy has them.. and far too common for my tastes. My first three games on Easy with the new update have ended before the third sector because of the damn things. I suppose they're not too useful if they hit an empty room and then never move, but just my luck every time I get hit by one it's in a vital location. Even worse, since they're a drone and not a weapon system, the faster you beat them the more you hurt yourself, since a new one comes in as soon as the last one's destroyed.

That's odd. When I've used them they haven't stayed in one room. and most of the times the enemy has moved to intercept the boarder drone making him a nice distraction at the very least. The only issue I've had with it is that it overrides what your boarding party is up to. I would imagine that my boarders would stay in the room i ported them to instead of trying to move/que a move command to where the boarder drone is/moves to. As far as I remember whenever the drone moved it stole control of my boarder party again.

Are you sure you didn't send it to an automated drone without doors?

Some of the pirate ships(namely the small interceptor) have two rooms that are completely sealed off from the rest of the ship.

Also, having dual boarding drones is a blast.

That sounds like a bug. You might want to create a new topic for this and report it to make sure the devs catch this.

The devs are aware. I posted this on getsatisfaction several days ago.

Generally, if I get hit with a boarding drone, I focus all of my fire on the enemy ship's drone control power and once that's down, I move in to take out the drone. It results in it taking a bit longer to down the enemy ship, but I find that it's a safe approach.

Defense drones rock for defending against these guys, they keep sending em, and the defense drone keeps knocking them out of the sky.

I used boarding drones against the final boss and they did a great job, it took 3 or 4 but every one of them tied up crew that would have been doing repairs, and stopped repairs in the room they were in. If they last long enough for the oxygen to run out of a room, due to their breech, they get hard to kill.

Keep them in the O2 room and let the whole ship suffocate. :D

Well, you can't control where they land, or where they go after they land, or else they would be over powered because anyone with any sense would do just that.
