[Suggestion] FTL on mobile devices!

Post by GeneralStukov »

Hey guys, I dunno what plans you all have for FTL yet I'm absolutely in love with this game, it's really addictive and fun! I'd love to take this on the go with my PS Vita, I'd imagine that the iOS, Android, 3DS, PSVita would be at home on such touch devices making this game much more fun and engaging while on the go!

Hope you guys know no matter what I'm def loving this game and will buy it on whatever device it may come to in the future *cough PSVita cough*

I'd love this on the iPod. I'm often on my iPod, and it's boring just.. starting at the opening screen. There should be an option to upload it to your iPod / Android if you have it plugged in, synced with your PC.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless FTL is entirely coded in Java, Flash, or Python (or some other Linuxy language), it would be a time consuming (and most likely expensive) endeavor to switch it over to a mobile device. Even if the language the game was coded in would be compatible with a mobile OS, there's still the problem of taking FTL's complex HUD and GUI and scrunching it down to pocket sized.

I would love to see this on mobile... But I wouldn't place any bets on it happening sometime soon.

I'm a mobile developer and I would love to port this awesome game to iOS. I can't wait to see FTL on iPad.

One of my first thoughts after my first couple of hours was how well the game would port over to an iPad or other medium-large tablet. Something as small as a smartphone might be a bit of a stretch, but I think a device with at least a 7" screen would be fully playable with some layout tweaks. Consider that all you need to be able to tap on is a pause button, you crew members, your weapons/drones/abilities and the individual rooms on both ships. Definitely able to do that on a touch-only device. And, just me personally, I'd gladly buy another copy to take on my iPad at work.

Here's hoping ;)

awesome guys! I actually thought I'd be ignored on this post for some odd reason but I actually was thinking for the 3DS and PSVita as well since both platforms do these simple games easily and not to mention Canabalt has been ported to so many devices and I think it uses the same engine as FTL.

For Androids/iPhones it can be done even with smaller touch controls but yea it would be smaller which is one of the reasons I was kinda hinting towards the Vita/3DS since the 3DS has 2 screens (enemy ship on one screen, yours on another and when you need to interact with the other ship with touch, one button switches the layouts from one screen to another.. the Vita could have a traditional controls scheme (same with the 3DS if you wish) and touch controls.

Ironically enough I had this very idea for a micromanagement space ship game in 2005 yet didn't act on it... I'm glad to see an idea I had actually come to light and be supported so strongly!

One of the first things I thought after getting this game is how much I would love to play it on my tablet.
