Letting the Flagship win at the Base

Post by stylesrj »

In all my many hours of FTL (both from Pre-AE and AE), whenever I reached the Last Stand, I have never let the Flagship win by timer. I'm always one jump away from the base or at least close enough to make it.

Of course I'd die a lot either to enemy ships or the Flagship itself but I never let the timer run out. I spent an hour on this run dammit! I don't want it to be finished without a fight!

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I've only let the timer run out a couple of times, mostly when I've been grinding runs for the Crystal ship's "Clash of the Titans" achievement and I was hoping I'd run into a Rock pirate ship in sector 8. (It can happen since sector 8 can have "filler" events or Rebel-Controlled Sector events.)

Other than that, yeah, the timer is a lot more lenient in AE than it used to be prior to that update, with the old Last Stand format.

The one reason I can think of to run the clock in sector 8 -- finding that last store -- becomes moot as the rebels take over the beacons. By the time the Flagship reaches the Base the chances of the last store even being there are pretty remote. 3 turns later it's even more remote.
