(Playing on the iPad)
I've probably played FTL about 100 times, and have managed to win twice; most recently last night. Fed Cruiser type A, AE enabled, Easy mode.
I had the following loadout:
3 x Burst Laser 2
1 Flak 1
Swarm (in storage)
Maxed shields, Maxed cloaking.
As I was playing the game, BL2's basically kept falling on top of me. I think I found one floating in space, then one was given to me during an assistance mission, and there was one in the store for purchase in Level 7.
It's like the game _wanted_ me to win; by Stage 3 of the final battle the mothership was basically completely on fire internally.
So, does the game keep track of how many losses you've had, and then make adjustments to the RNG so that you get a "gimme" win every once in a while? If you don't occasionally win, you'd probably stop playing.
I'd like to think that I'm getting better, but...
Am I getting better, or does FTL have a "reward" mode?

You probably are getting better over time, but getting free BL2's is pure luck. And no, there's no "reward mode," it's just normal randomness.

You're getting better.
One of the weird things about FTL is that it's not "Make the wrong choice, lose." It's more "Make 7 wrong choices that seem okay, and seem to work out okay, that cause you to lose 15 minutes later in a way that makes it look like the game just laid the smackdown on you for no reason whatsoever."
You're making more good choices so when you meet that ship that would have blown you away, you have an extra shield, some more dodge, and better weapons. And you know a few tricks you didn't previously know to get around whatever it was they destroyed you with.
But yeah, free BL2s is nice too
