Puzzled about O2

Post by Sionel »

Twice now I've found myself in a spot where my O2 is rapidly reducing to zero and yet, my O2 system is fine and dandy, at full repair and has no response to sending crewmen in there. No doors to the outside are open (in fact, no doors at all) and there are no fires.

I can jump between beacons and the O2 still falls at a steady rate until everyone dies. I can see absolutely no reasons for this - can anyone suggest anything?

Hmm, must be a glitch in the game, not sure why it would decrease O2 then.
Maybe it's a breach in one of your rooms?

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but are you sure your life support room is powered?

Jumping into ionstorm nebula sections will mess up your power allotments, and can often result in your life support being shut off. If it's off, then oxygen levels will slowly deplete, even if the room itself is intact and otherwise at 100%

I wondered why I had no oxygen- That was the cause.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that the O2 system needs to automatically steal power if it comes back on-line and there's spare capacity in the reactor. The number of situations in which you want to intentionally depower life support is really low.

Maybe that was it - I could see nothing "broken" and I guess if I jumped from one storm to another, I could have been unfortunate enough to have had my life support knocked out twice.

Whatever the case there seemed to be no way of dealing with it so it was pretty much an auto game-ender for me.

Not all that much fun, really.

Nope, all rooms seem fine. It was a bit weird.

Actually, I once (in a slug homeworld nebula) met a slug cruiser which "was on a good mood", so he allowed me to choose what he would shut down; weapons, shields or oxygen. Some quick looks at his ship told me that he had some pretty heavy beams, and only level two shields. So I chose oxygen, because he would really hurt me if I didn't have any shields and I had enough weapons to take him down without taking damage.

He said something like "Wow, I'd never think someone would choose to suffocate.", and then the fight started with me and my turned off oxygen supply. Luckily, I managed to finish him off with my oxygen at 60%, and then I could turn it back on.

I disagree. I find there are loads of times where I value that power-bar in systems other than the O2.
Most battles you can depower life support for the entirety and just repower it at the end. Giving you an extra power-bar for the whole battle.

There is quite a load of time before you have to re-power your oxygen supply, and you can just wait for however long it takes for it to refill all the rooms before you leave for the next beacon if you want to do it again.
