Time and time again. Like now, I had 4 shields but that didn't help. It took two pulses and all my shields were gone. Then the enemy's antiship drone chewed me to bits. Granted I was stupid that time that I didn't activate my Anti-Drone drone, but that's not the point. The point is that pulsars are insanely dangerous when compared to other environmental hazards, that is, suns, ion storms and asteroid fields.
But that's okay, considering they're part of Advanced content. I don't mind the challenge, since pre-Advanced Edition FTL had become kind of easy for me to beat, save with the few ships that require a lot of restarting, mainly Stealth B. It's good to feel some real frustration again.
FYI, I was playing on Hard with the Slug B, pretty reliant on my boarding party consisting of two mantis since I found no decent weapons.
Also, my greatest respect and utmost love to the developers for making this awesome expansion free. I would've gladly paid good money for this amount of new content.

Really? I always found the pulsar to be the easiest of all the enviromental hazards to deal with. The biggest pain has always been a sun for me. But pulsars are much easier to deal with. At least for me.

Re: Getting screwed over by pulsars
A very easy way to look at pulsars is that you typically have more expendable systems than your opponent. Most opponents' ships have 6-ish systems. Most of your ships start with 8. The pulsar is more likely to catch something important on their ship than on yours, mathematically speaking.
I've never been significantly hurt by pulsars. I feel like if you're getting hurt by pulsars, you were already behind.

Re: Getting screwed over by pulsars
One strategy I liked in Pulsars was holding back on my first volley at his weapons until RIGHT BEFORE the pulsar, and then firing everything. My shields and his go down as my shots are firing, and even if my weapons room takes Ion damage, the shots still go through. That almost always wins every fight.

I hate them because they frequently disable both my weapons and shields, and seem to not touch theirs, argh.
