I love this games design, I honestly have few to no complaints about the way the combat, upgrading, and progression system works. I have some suggestions tho that I think would drastically improve this games re-play ability.
The main Idea is to add a larger world feel the the game, a map that is not so liner, and allows for more free roaming as well as decision making, while still keeping the randomly generated scenario's to allow for a huge game map. Perhaps one spanning multiple galaxies even, but with every game still being entirely unique.
I would love to see more story line options for this as well, Instead of only getting to be a ship running from the constant tide of rebel F**k you over-mobiles. For example:
The ability to start the game as a merchant ship. A ship with a large cargo hold and low firepower, traveling from system to system trading goods and making a profit, while fending off pirates and brigands alike trying to steal your goods, and constantly upgrading your trade vessel so it can outrun, or outgun the enemy.
The ability to start the game as a pirate or smuggler, hiding in asteroid belts and dark nebula, in wait for some poor ship to fall into your trap. Go out hunting for weaker ships to destroy or steal from, Or run illegal goods between borders while trying to evade the local law that will no doubt want to turn you into space debris.
The ability to start the game as a scientific exploration vessel, get grants from factions to explore uncharted planets and nebula in search of other lifeforms and new found resources.
The ability to start the game as a lone adventurer, starting off with a basic ship and doing whatever work comes your way. Then Fending off weaker and stronger ships alike as you struggle to survive and upgrade your own to become the bigger fish in the galactic sea.
Maybe even the ability to start the game as a military ship in a fleet, fighting along side your space bound brothers and advancing through military ranks as you defeat the enemy, Or be defeated yourself and die alongside your crew.
All of this with the choice of what race you wish to be, a small choice between starting ships, the ability to upgrade your vessel and crew just like in the normal game. Perhaps even the ability to buy expensive new ships from a spaceport, and transfer the tech from your old one onto it, then sell the old ship for scrap. Realistic enemies, sometimes you outgun them, sometime they outgun you, and you have to really be smart about if your going to fight or flee.
I know its a bit to ask, but really, a good portion of this content is already there in a way, the pirate ships are a good example, just re-outfit them so they can be player-owned and operated. Go ahead and tell me what you think of the Ideas I have proposed. I'm anxious to see what the community thinks.
