Hello guys. First of all, amazing work and thank you for making a game like this! Although I personally don't own a copy at the moment (lack of credit card, but my friend has it and we both play on his computer), I really enjoy FTL and hope to enjoy it for a long time.
Through hours of play since release, there have been a few things that I thought would be pretty neat to have in the game. The biggest one is - what if you were able to choose where to place a new system when you buy it?
Take this for example - on a routine run with the Kestrel, you stop at a store. You think, "Hey - I've got a ton of scrap, I'm going to pick up the drone control to go with the drone I recently found." So you buy it. It automatically goes into your ship.
Now what if you could pick where to install this new system you just bought? What if you just bought a teleporter? Maybe you could stick it in the 2x2 room adjacent to the bridge - so your Mantis boarding crew stands between enemy boarders and your captain!
With the ability to choose the placement of systems, you can prioritize and/or isolate different systems to create strategy. You could spread out your systems, forcing boarders to have to cut through more rooms to get at them, or enemy ships to spread out their attacks to damage all of your systems (when it comes to targeted beams and stuff).
Could I make gameplay suggestion? :)

I think that would be a good idea, but actually I think it was meant to be this way for a reason.
For example, have you unlocked this one Mantis Cruiser yet?
It's unique in the way that it has a 4 tile telporter room, allowing you to mass board the enemy ship.
Eventhough I'd sure like my Kestrel or any of the other ships to have the drone control and cloaking crammed into those small little 2tile rooms to have a 4 tile teleporter, I dont think it'd be too great and could easily take the challange out of it.
But of course such things are for the developers and other players to decide, just my two cents though.

No. That absolutely defeats the point of ever choosing Mantis type B and crystal type B.
