So, I need to open the resource and data files in the steam version of FTL. Mainly because I need to get the images/sprites of the ships, weapons, drones, crew members, ect. without a such as via a screenshot. They are both DAT. files, so I can open them in notepad. But in notepad, it does not show the images. The internet says that I need to open it in the program it was made/compiled in, but i'm not sure how true that is, nor do I know what program I would use for that. Can anyone help me with this?
(Also, if this is in the wrong section, sorry. I wasn't sure if it would be in technical support (But this isn't a bug, modding development (But this isn't for a mod), or general discussion (But this isn't really about the game).

The best tool that I can recommend is Slipstream Mod Manager - aside from its main purpose as mod-installing tool, it also has a feature that allows you to unpack the game's archives without any trouble (File > Extract Dats...)
