Can't power things?

Hey folks, I've been running into what seems like a recurring error, and I'm hoping someone can help me figure it out.

I lost my first game in a plasma cloud, and couldn't power my weapons... no matter how much stuff I turned off, I just couldn't get the damn things to turn on. I had twice as many bars as was necessary to get everything functioning, but it insisted that I couldn't turn them on. I died.

Just now in game, I've had an event where I've been given a Firebomb weapon. I have enough bars to power it, but I can only seem to get two weapons functional at once: either my initial Artemis and the Firebomb, or the Burst Laser and the Artemis. I wondered if it's simply a matter of being able to only power two weapons at a time, but the message says something about not enough power, not too many weapons. Is there something I missed? Hoping for some insight. Thanks, all.

are you only talking about weapons you cant power?

if so, you have to upgrade your weapon systems.

upgrading that will increase the amount of powers you can allocate to your weapons.

upgrading your reactor will increase the amount of energy you can play with.

Yeah, to use more weapons you have to both upgrade the weapon system itself and have enough system power to power it and every other system you want powered.
