Hey guys, I just wanted to bring this up and see if anyone else had had the same issue, or if there was anything I could do about it.
Essentially, I lost all of the ships in my hangar except for the starter ship. Furthermore, all of my stats from previous games are gone. Obviously I'm a little peeved because some of these ships required what seemed like, at the time, a perfect lucky combination of factors in order to nab them. If anyone else has experienced this, do you know any possible fixes or reasons for why it happened?

Re: Lost all Save Data
Hello there. I'm really sorry about this. One person posted on the GetSatisfaction with a similar complaint, but has not responded to my questions. Here's the same stuff I asked him, and a link below for you to follow as well in case he does respond with more info.
Just to confirm, you're logged in as the same user on Windows? The save files were stored locally in the install up until a couple weeks ago, and I'm not sure if you are an old beta tester or not. You have to use the same user to access the profile data.
Can you check "My Documents/My Games/FasterThanLight" and see what files are in there? It's possible the game backed up your profile data if something went wrong.

I'd be happy to make you a profile save file with the ship's you've unlocked if you give me the info. Obviously it'd be a little harder to replicate the game stats. I'm very sorry about this and I hope we can figure out why it happened before it happens to more people. This never happened during the rest of the Beta so it seems quite rare.

Thanks for your quick response. I got into the early release due to being a backer on Sunday.zasdarq wrote:Helpful stuff
1. I am indeed logged into the same account on the same computer as last night when everything was working fine.
2. In the my FasterThanLight folder there's a small prof.sav file, but I presume that that's because I started playing again today. Be assured that I am definitely enjoying this game, so willing am I to play through it with the starter ship again.
I'll be sure to get an email to you soon. Thanks for your quick assistance and willingness to help.

Re: Lost all Save Data
Do you happen to remember in what manner you last quit the game prior to losing your data? The exact quit steps? I assume it didn't crash since you probably would've mentioned that
. Also, just now when you loaded up FTL and you saw all your stats were gone, did you get the "Welcome to FTL" messages that appear? There's one in the main screen that suggests you play the tutorial, and one in the hangar that explains what the hangar is. Those are triggered if you *don't* have a profile save, so if they weren't triggered, something else went wrong.
The prof.sav file is your profile and yeah, it's probably been just created since it didn't have one before.

No, there was certainly no CTD. I haven't hit any other bugs so far in ~15 hours of playing, so I'm keeping that in mind considering this is the first problem I've had. I did get both of the welcome messages recommending that I play the tutorial.zasdarq wrote:Do you happen to remember in what manner you last quit the game prior to losing your data? I honestly don't remember exactly how I closed it, but if I had to take a guess I'd say I turned off my computer with the game still running? It was pretty much midnight so I can't be sure. Sorry I can't be more help with identifying the issue.

Re: Lost all Save Data
If you're using Windows Vista or 7 then its Previous Versions feature may help you out.
Navigate to your prof.sav file and right-click it. Click on the "Previous Versions" tab and if Windows has taken any backups of the file they will display in the main area there. If so, click on the latest one before your problem, click the "Restore" button and follow the additional prompts.
You may wish to take a copy of prof.sav beforehand.

I had no idea that feature existed. Brilliant suggestion _aD, thank you very much.

Re: Lost all Save Data
This has happened to me as well, twice. Once i was playing through and i lost an achievement that i gained, and then later on i lost all of my data and it gave me the tutorial messages again. I looked in the save file area that you suggested and there were two saves - both very small and new - with no previous versions. Im using the same account too. Luckily i can remember how i exited the game too. I was at the boss battle and died and then pressed esc to get back to the main menu. Then i clicked the exit button. I hope this can help you guys to fix this

Re: Lost all Save Data
this is actually a bigger problem than i thought, every time i load up the game it starts me over again, any advice? I noticed that one of my save files says *new* in the middle and one doesn't, maybe that has something to do with it?
