Linux and Windows Versions

Post by nataryeahbuddy »

So my FTL wasn't working on Windows so I went and got Linux and booted it up. Now I'm on Linux, will I need to buy it again for Linux or is the link fine?

You can download your game as many times as you want, from the site you bought it from. You can install and use any version you like, as long as there's only one person playing the game. You can invite friends to play of course, just don't give copies to friends. :)

Where did you buy the game from, by the way? Official site, Steam, or GOG?

Official site! Thanks! Doesn't downloading another copy on the next operating system violate the license or something, you only can have one copy of FTL at a time?

I am not aware of such rules. As long as only one copy is running at a given time, and it's all computers that belong to the same person, I think there is no issue. You would get a prominent message if there were such restrictions. ;)

There isn't a general rule, it depends on the terms and conditions of the sale. Without getting into details (that i would probably not understand), FTL is sold as one game and distributed digitally. However the files purchased include installers for Win, Mac and Linux (if all three are available). You bought that stuff so it's yours to download and use. In case of FTL it was done intentionally because customers may have several computers/notebooks with different OSs, so they can install and play the game on any machine.

www.ftlgame.com offers all three versions.
Steam offers all three versions (linux games are a recent addition).
GoG offers PC and Mac versions with linux to be included when linux games became part of GoG catalogue.
