feels like star command, are there any other games like this?

The first time I played Star Command I thought, 'This is the coolest idea, they need to make a bigger, better game in this exact style on the pc' I thought the basic formula was so good it should be like Terraria, clones everywhere.

Lo and behold I find out today thats what FTL is, it appears bigger and better in every way. So my question is are there others out there like it I'm not aware of? Also, are there strong mods for it yet, maybe something that turns it more into a traditional game (ie, heavy customize ship/crew in beginning and play a larger epic game, instead of roguelike mechanics of continously playing through/dying a short game to unlock content and start anew, rinse repeat)

Try the Captain's Edition mod. It's pretty much a complete overhaul, and comes with several extra mods that add to it, such as the Infinite addon, which might be the change you were looking for.

thanks, from the little bit I found, I thought maybe thats the one to try. there was another called dark descent or something like that, sounded interesting but I don't know. The combat and general gameplay is just really great as it stands.

these days I can sometimes enjoy roguelikes, but overall not a big fan, especially wish a space game like this was more of a long term build up one ship and crew without having to start over.
