From the start, the game reminded me of an old, short-lived but excellent P&P RPG - Alternity. One of the few RPG systems oriented mostly towards contemporary and SF, it spawned its own default space-opera setting (Star*Drive) and had an okay spaceship combat system. However, it was completely overhauled when the free e-book called Warships came out, which oriented itself towards combat, new ships and new weaponry, and even unusual subsystems. I played Alternity and Warships for quite a long time and the amount of default content is already amazing, but the player content is enough to blow a mind or two.
So here are the Warships rules, the 29 warships designs and the designs from Action Check. The Fast-Play rules (describing the diceroll system, as it's something of an oddity compared to the more "standard", say, d20 Modern) are above the description.
So, hope this gives both the devs and modders something to at least enjoy reading, if not implement completely. I'm not suggesting the designs be straight off ripped out and inserted into the game (but I haven't spoken to any of the authors if they'd be willing to consent to such, so it's not a definite no), but it's good source material.
Keep calm and dodge Rebels.
