Almost every unfair quick death of an otherwise capable ship starts with a lucky hit (or 2. Or 3) to the cockpit or engines.LeadHead wrote:Unless your engines are completely and absolutely FUBAR'd, then there's always an escape.

Wait until your computer glitches up and closes the program automatically. Then you find out that your game save has been deleted. Thats insta death.

That actually happened to me on my YouTube series. I made it through sector 1 in the DA-SR 12. Saved and exited, and then when I came back to play sector 2 the game crashed right after loading.Notoriousmrbaker wrote:Wait until your computer glitches up and closes the program automatically. So then I played Sector 1 again and got through it again

Re: Is "Instant Death" a Common Part of the Game?
Happened to me twice yesterday. After an incredibly long break in playing the game (and instead only posting), I installed non-steamed FTL on my X61 with external monitor and started over, with the goal to unlock and win with all ships (and possibly also unlock all achievements) without losing a game, since poor Twinge still only has n=1 for his claim that all games can be won. The game runs quite well on that setup, but in sector 4 the computer just shut down. Surprisingly, when I restarted the computer, there was no loss recognised, so I started my second ship named The First. Again, in sector 4, the computer shut down. I realised that the resolution of the external monitor (or something completely different?) strained the poor old Thinkpad quite a bit and it became very hot. So for the third attempt (still no loss recognised) and with the third The First, I put a cooling pad beneath the laptop and lo and behold, I made it to sector 6 without troubles, unlocking the Red-Tail and the Torus on the way. Then I went to bed, but I have high hopes to have this ship record the first victory soon, maybe unlocking one or two more ships on the way.
