So, this thread starts out with one guy complaining that the game is too cruel and dishes out unfair 'instant death' too often to be fun, and evolves into discussions about how the game is easy ...
Me, I still lose often enough on Normal to be on my toes, so to speak, and not take it for granted that I'm gonna make the flagship each time. Hell, I got wiped out first jump with the Basilisk - the freaking Basilisk! - just recently (D Drone misses the very first missile from the Auto Assault ship, which of course hits the drone control room. Second missile; shield room. Which shortly afterwards gets set on fire by a Burst Laser II round. The BL2 then takes out the helm, and sets back the painfully slow Mantis repair of the drone control. Now shields were down, and the shield room was fully ablaze, so when the next missile took out the engine, I just sat back and watched. It wasn't long.)
I don't think there was much I could have done differently that would have saved me - if anything - and I'm OK with that. Cruel, unfair defeats make the victories all the sweeter. I haven't played Easy for ages now, because there's no risk or challenge to it, and the ever-present risk of "rogue-like permadeath" (TM) was what hooked me into FTL in the first place. If I get the point where I can play Normal with any ship and feel like I can't lose, that would probably be the point where I'd stop playing. But it sounds like Hard mode can't get here soon enough for some!
