How long will the game take to beat?
i know it's a bit of a tough question, but i am curious... can you give some kind of estimated time?

The play through itself is maybe 2-4 hours? Took me a week to be able to beat it. Everyone will vary wildly there though.
I did get significantly lucky on that play through as well. (free pre-igniter ftw!)

Tough to say. How long does it take someone to get the Amulet Of Yendor in Nethack? The trouble with the time estimate is that this format of game is one where you're expected to keep trying and starting over from scratch until you beat the game. On top of that, there's random elements in play, so a turn of bad luck or a streak of unusually good luck will confound all guesses.
You probably won't beat it the first time. I don't think winning an FTL playthrough is quite as hard as getting the Amulet Of Yendor, but "Normal" mode is still rather challenging. I've heard some people describe "normal" difficulty as "you will die" and "easy" difficulty as "you will die, but it takes longer." Personally, I think if you know what you're doing, it's not quite that hard.
But lets say you to beat FTL the very first time, you awesome player, you. I agree with icepick, it'd take about 2-4 hours, depending on if you take the time to read the dialogues and how often you pause the game (something you should be doing often to issue orders or make other changes).
Of course, if you stop after beating the game the very first time, you'll never play the ship you unlocked by getting to sector 5, nor the other 7 ships you can unlock through encountering certain events, nor their alternate hull configurations from completing achievements with those ships...
