Re: Getting Secret Ship not Fun
Would be less piss-me-off annoying if the first two events could happen in any sector, and if the entire line could only happen if it were possible to get to the second event/rock homeworlds from the first event's location.

I believe that the first event can happen in any sector now. Try visiting nodes that display Distress Beacons, as the pods now transmet distress signals.
I've had 3 pods in 1 game at the most, yet still not been able to complete the "event", only stages 1 & 2.

The first event (finding a ship in asteroid field giving out distress calls) can happen in:Dahn wrote:I believe that the first event can happen in any sector now. Try visiting nodes that display Distress Beacons, as the pods now transmet distress signals.

- Engi Controlled
Engi Homeworld
Rock Controlled
Rock Homeworld (but you won't be able to trigger the second event in the same sector, so scratch this)
Pirate Controlled
The second event (Zoltan Crew Study) should happen fairly often now - you have probably seen a few "help we've been held hostage by pirates!"
There's 1 guaranteed spawn in Zoltan Controlled, 1 guaranteed spawn in Zoltan Homeworlds, and also random chance to spawn in Engi Controlled/Engi Homeworlds. - In fact, I had one game where I grabbed the Stasis Pod, then get the Crystal crew straight after 2 jumps.
The secret beacon in the Rock Homeworld is the hardest to trigger right now. It's a guaranteed spawn, but there's no indication whatsoever and could be practically unreachable for you. You can risk a thorough search as the Rebels catch up, as once you find the beacon, you jump to a new sector and don't need to worry about the progress.

I found the research station in sector 6 and my two choices for sector 7 are one controlled by Mantis and one controlled by Pirates. It sounds like I'm sort of screwed unless the Rock homeworld has moved. I wonder why my crew offered to take him to a place they can't possibly reach.

They are optimistic that they can survive the courier trip and bring him there after the war is resolved. Remember, the end of the game is not the end of their lives, unless you let them die, of course.Korval wrote:I found the research station in sector 6 and my two choices for sector 7 are one controlled by Mantis and one controlled by Pirates. You're suggesting it isn't all about me?
That's...a radical concept, but it makes a sort of sense.

I know. It could be mind-blowing realizing that all those crewmembers have their own lives before and after (not necessarily) the game, and the whole game is just maybe 1~2 days of their journey.Korval wrote:You're suggesting it isn't all about me?That's...a radical concept, but it makes a sort of sense.

That's why I would really like to have a randomly generated "short bio" for every crewmember, and have a slide-show after the winning screen. Just to make you feel closer to the now rather bland characters.
Example. During the game, you can click on your crew, and in addition to the "Humans are common and boring", you'll see:
Jon, Human Male, 36 years old.
Jon has always dreamed about getting on a space ship.
He used to love playing baseball with his dad.
Brian has a long distance relationship with a waitress on Earth.
Thomas, Mantis Male, 221 cycles old.
Thomas dropped out of Maths class after a night of binge drinking.
Thomas loves grilled Xothee meat.
Thomas secretly enjoys Engi soap operas.
And after beating the final boss, there could be a slide show showing an animation of each crewmember and a short description of their life afterwards. Some of them would simply say "Continue to serve on the Kestrel for many years to come" or "Left adventures behind at an Engi moon and settled down." But throw in one or two lines of "Becomes an intergalactic basketball superstar" or "Becomes a doctor on an Engi ship." and you're set.Lucy, Rock Female, kept her age a secret.
Likes playing with fire.
Once ate 48 bars of chocolate in the frame of 3 hours.
Doesn't like *crew name* that much.

You forgot to add "A short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry" to the end of every description.fall_ark wrote:

I actually mentioned this to Orange at one point, but the other day i got the first event in Sector 7, the second event in Sector 8....and then apparently I had to go to Sector 9. Which doesn't exist.

There's been lots of talk about how to do more background story and post-game recaps, but that is actually really cute and not too difficult to implement. I'll keep it in mind, someone repost it on get satisfaction?
If you're having hull problems, I feel bad for you son. I've got 99 problems but a breach ain't one.
