Any plans for a sandbox mode?
Played the game for the first time yesterday, and absolutely loving it. I was wondering if there were any plans for a sandbox mode though, where I could just explore and play without the threat of the rebels catching up to me. Anything like that planned or announced?

The end screen has had a "continue playing" button for a while. But I don't really know what is happening to the plans for it.bluebogle wrote:Played the game for the first time yesterday, and absolutely loving it. Re: Any plans for a sandbox mode?
This is the biggest gripe for me.
I've played 4 hours of the game over the last 2 days and I love it, but I feel as though I've got everything I can out of it. I just want to build my ship and crew while taking random quests.
The mechanics are fantastic I just don't think there is enough game to fully explore what you can do with them and there's only so many times you can replay it before you feel as though you had enough.
A sandbox mode would be greatly welcomed.

Re: Any plans for a sandbox mode?
I hear you. I've played about 12 hours so far, and I'm probably good for another 12 considering how much I'm enjoying it. That said, I'd love the ability to start with a small ship and crew, and have to work my way to bigger, badder ships with better gear. Take on missions and jobs, or play as a pirate or merchant, or your typical space sim stuff. Obviously that's a ways from where the game is now, but I hope the devs build it into a DLC or something eventually. I wouldn't mind paying extra for more gameplay styles and options, and I think the basic mechanics of the game have much wider scope in possibilities. In the meantime how ever, I got more than my monies worth.

May not be exactly what you're talking about, but this game would make an awesome RPG. More quests, free roam, faction reputation, maybe even away-team gameplay?
FTL 2, anybody?

SpaceManSpiff, that's along the lines of what I was thinking.
When I first saw the boss I thought about how awesome it would be if you could buy additional gunner rooms for more weapons, an additional reactor for more power, be able to buy different (larger) hulls in a single play-through to house more rooms. I think the game-play would translate well into larger battles with many more crew, larger ships and more of everything. That in turn would create an opportunity for longer progression which would make an awesome RPG.
FTL2 or FLT RPG DLC the three letter acronym-tastic expansion (FTL Acrotastic, thats what I'd name it). I would buy that!

There is only so many times you can play through this?
I'm rockin' 84 hours thus far. Still loving it and I am still trying to get all the ships.
The devs have stated before that there will be a continue after the main quest.
I'm loving the variation in gameplay styles, using the different ships and depending on what weapons and equipment that becomes availiable through the game. So many different things happen through the run, there seems to be always more events that I've not seen before.
Grats to the devs, this is easily my game of the year

Count me in as wanting MORE!
More of pretty much everything. I still have yet to beat the last guy but at least I finally made it to him!

I will gladly give more money for more features. Sandbox mode could be fun, but more RPG and trader game elements would be awesome as well. Hell just about any addition! Loving FTL, and hope it grows.

Re: Any plans for a sandbox mode?
to be fair there is a game "similar" to FTL called starship corporation that is currently being funded but the combat in that is very scripted and the game is more centered around the building of the ship rather than the flying. If FTL and that game could have a love child where you build your own ship and then fly around in a sandbox....
