I've never tried the mods that totally changes the story, I want to beat the boss on easy mode and get all the ships first

My favorite mod so far is the Foundation of the Federation. Even though it is still in development, I Love how The Author (Whale Cancer) released the ships early and I have enjoyed my time with those smaller ships, and when this mod is done it will be Great.

Well, since this thread apparently isn't dead, I'd like to mention the sM Polish Kit. It is a very extensive set of gameplay and graphical tweaks that basically 'polishes' vanilla FTL. The most obvious changes are the brilliant font size change, (which really makes everything pop,) and the completely clear weapon descriptions, but the full list of changes is gargantuan. It's best to just plug it in and take a look yourself. As a veteran captain, I was constantly pleasantly surprised when I first used it, and now I almost always have this mod enabled.

As a bonus, there's also a compatibility patch that makes it work with Captain's Edition. I don't know how much extra work it took to do that, but it's very appreciated and cool. I think CE's more recent versions actually include some stuff from the sM Polish Kit, but I wouldn't know because I've got both on most of the time.
