so i may have fixed my own problem. i started out having they game already running when i tried to use SSM and it seems to work. i dont know if thats how your saposed to do it or not but its working.

It should go:
- use SMM to patch the game data.
- start game so it loads the gamedata modified by SMM.
If the game is already running it could cause a crash or simply fail to work. I made the same mistake recently when switching between mods.
 I was enjoying Ben Prunty's music and i patched in a mod... and then i had a bad time. Nobody's perfect.
