110 games and still no victory...what am I doing wrong?

I BEAT THE FLAGSHIP! FINALLY! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Okay, deep breath...phew.

Anyway, the ship I was piloting was the Noether, aka Zoltan B.

Shields: 3 shields (plus Zoltan) (manned by level 2 Shields crewmate)

Weapons: 5 power: Ion Blast I x2, Pike Beam, Ion Bomb (manned by level 2 Weapons crewmate)

Crew: 3 Zoltan, 2 Humans, 2 Rock (one died during the battle), one Engi

Augments: Zoltan Shield, Engi Nano-bot Heal, Damaged Stasis Pod (never did get that open)

Engines: 5 (plus level 2 Engine crewmate)

Medbay; 2 (plus Engi augment) (only one power)

Teleporter: 2 (only one power)

Cloak: 2 (only one power, took power away from Medbay sometimes)

Drones: 2 power. Sys Repair (unpowered), Anti-Personnel (powered)

Doors, Pilot, Sensors: All 2

How did I do it?: Got lucky with lots of fuel drops, so I explored EVERYWHERE in the first few sectors. Didn't actually buy any weapons or augments; Ion Bomb was a reward from the "Stealth Ship" mission on Engi Homeworlds, and Engi Heal augment was from a random event (the one where you give them 40 scrap, 2 fuel, and 2 missiles). Almost all Scrap went to upgrading the ship. When I got to the ship itself, put both Ion Blasts on Autofire to the shields, and dropped an Ion Bomb on it when it was up. Then I paused my game to line up Pike Beam shots so it would do 4 or so damage every time, targeting the shields in particular so they would stay down. Dodged pretty well (45%), cloaked when the drone swarms came. Teleported in my Rockmen to take out the weapons. Three ion weapons meant the super shield wasn't so super.

Though I wonder how lucky you were. I bet as you play more games, you'll find yourself being oddly luckier than you have been in the past
