Peace- A poem

Post by Powder Miner »

Alllright. Going to make my debut post!
It's a poem I wrote in the middle of class.
Why I did I don't know, but I did.
Also maybe spoilerS? I dunno, I went to the effort to make this not directly spoil things. But it does reference the endgame!

Peace

Shrapnel
Floating through space
From the drones we scrapped
From the rebels we shot
From the mantis we killed,
The pirates we crushed.
But I don't regret it
I did what I had to, after all.

From the smashing asteroid fields
to the burning solar flares.
From the smugglers we caught
to those rocks in sector 5.
I aimed-
missiles flew
at all
But I don't regret it
I did what I had to, after all.

The others wondered
if I was even human
When I kept manning weapons
after that mantis ripped
that hole in my chest.
And I kept reloading the missiles
as I bled.
But I don't regret it
I did what I had to, after all.

I look hazily
out the window
The black of space
and the white of cruisers
Victorious
The white floor of the ship
The red of my blood
And the charred orange
of the last ship
I'll ever have to fight.
But I don't regret it
I did what I had to, after all.

I might have made it
if not for the medbay
the missile tore to shreds
if not for the time
we didn't have
The others crowd around me
I'm all too human, it seems.
But it's OK.
I'm ready.
I don't regret this.
I helped deliver what needed to be delivered.
I shot what needed to be shot.
I did what I had to.
And now, a reprieve
from all this cursed fighting
for everyone- if just for a while.
But for me- it's forever.
Peace.
