Hey all,
Wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if it's just me, but by the end of all my games my pilot has max skill, my engines guys has max skill, and my weapons guy has max skill, but my shield guy hasn't even filled up his first bar.
I can't see how my play style would cause this; I don't use cloak to dodge or anything so pretty much 100% of incoming fire has to down my shields. I do tend to get my dodge to 40%+, so maybe I'm avoiding tons of shots?
Dunno, but it seems to me that the skill raises way slow compared to all the other system skills.

if you mouseover the skills you should see how much experience the crewmember has and how much he needs for level up. for example meleeing needs 7 killing blows to level up and I think shields need somewhere around 40-60 hits to the shield (in combat) to level up.

Shields require more than 100 shield hits to level up. Engines+Pilot require only 30 evades to level up each.Gorlom wrote:if you mouseover the skills you should see how much experience the crewmember has and how much he needs for level up. for example meleeing needs 7 killing blows to level up and I think shields need somewhere around 40-60 hits to the shield (in combat) to level up.

It is shield charges, not shield hits. You can, during battle, lower your shields and turn them back on for experience.

Weird, I found that my Engine guy didnt do much at all with his skill and was lagging way behind Pilot and Weapons crew.

Pilot and Engineer should improve at the same rate, as long as they're both manning their stations the whole time. Was your engine room continually getting hit and so repairs had to be made, or did you frequently send your engineer off to other parts of the ship?Gomisan wrote:Weird, I found that my Engine guy didnt do much at all with his skill and was lagging way behind Pilot and Weapons crew.

No my engineer stayed at his post. I'll watch that one next game, it seemed odd at the time and I wonder if perhaps there was a bug in there somewhere.
I've also tried lowering and raising shields in battle, and it had NO effect on the XP of the guy manning that station.

Hmm... You absolutely sure about that? XP is gained whenever a shield bubble is filled while someone is at the Shield system post. Turning it on and off quickly won't do it, you need to turn it off while the game isn't paused and back on again such that a shield bubble needs to be filled.Gomisan wrote:No my engineer stayed at his post. I'll start a game now and try and test this out.
Edit.. ok seems to test OK, must have been my imagination. Still seems awful slow.
