Very interesting. I will certainly have to try this super micro management out some time!

I learned this one pretty quickly. Works every time, even in combat. For now you can re-open

Lambchops wrote:How to you guys decide on your strategy for the fun in terms of what you are focusing upgrading?

One strategy I've never really used and should probably try is ever significantly upgrading engines. I tend to focus on shields but I guess engines give you that chance to do some dodging here and there and get out of hairy situations with a FTL jump. How useful do you guys tend to find engine upgrades?
To answer your second question first, engine upgrades are very useful. By the final sector I usually have weapons, shields, and engines maxed out if possible. If you're tight on budget, use ohmylemons' guide to micromanaging your energy so that you can increase engine power at the last millisecond.

I found that my strategy will depend on the ship I'm in. For example, with the Kestrel I will focus on lasers and/or missiles, but in the Torus I'll be spitting out drones fast as I can. Definitely try to focus on one or two strategies (lasers, missiles, drones, boarding) so that you can sell equipment that you don't plan on using for scrap.

I've recently found out that nebulae are my friend! You can spend much longer exploring a nebula as it slows down the rebel fleet. It's a great source of scrap.

What routes do you guys tend to take?

Stay on target! Stay on target!
I appreciate the discussion about piloting while fighting boarding parties, but lets not derail the topic. Feel free to open up a new thread for that discussion.

My experience has seemed like it was the latter... but I would have to check that..
IIRC it wasn't charging.

BACK ON TARGE... errrmmm TOPIC!

My thought is this... On average engines can reduced damage by about 45% (with yellow crew member). My ship just isn't getting damaged enough on a good run for that to be worth it and it is certainly not reliable. I am better off putting money and energy into cloak, shields, and defensive drones, all of which seem not only more reliable but more efficient at avoiding damage. The absolute best way to avoid damage seems to be to fire before they do or avoid their first salvo with cloak, then decimate their weapons with a return volley of attack drones and heavy lasers or similar.

Cloaking while attack drones shave off their shields, your weapons charge, and boarding party slaughters them like pigs is a lot of fun. My favorite part is blasting the med bay when they try to heal.

Waiting to fire until all the weapons are charge seems to be much be much more effective than firing as quickly as possible. Especially true for lasers against shields and missiles against drones. Timing a laser strike just after an attack drone strike also seems to work very well.

I always try to do this. I really wish there was some indication of drone weapons charge. It can be really hard to time if you're pausing a whole bunch.
