Is it running OK? Amazing. I have a Dell Inspiron with GMA3150 and Atom N570 and it is completely unplayable, as in "spitting out a frame every 2 secs" unplayable. I have a 32 bit Windows 8 installed, since it is a touchscreen device, and Win7 is such a lame system to use a touchscreen with. I know it is not officially supported, but since the GFX drivers should be the same for both systems I figured it should not matter.

What might be the problem here? Would it help if I got a x64 OS? Any help will be appreciated.

Don't bother with windows 8 is my suggestion. :p

Don't think an atom will work the x64 with it? I thought they were 32bit chips.

Also I doubt the drivers are the same for a completely different os.

I can't test it right now on my net book as my screen is broken, i should receive one soon and hope to be able to play with it.

Well the system screen sure says it's a 64-bit chip. And as I mentioned - to get a decent tablet functionality I just have to have Win8 installed.

Latest patch, despite talking about new stretch options, still doesn't quite work out for my Windows 7 netbook (actually it didn't run at all at first, it went to a white screen, but after a beta patch it now runs again). Here's what I tried:

Full screen - stretch - Just loads up in a window like it did before, tells me resolution unsupported
Full screen - black borders - Same deal
Full screen - native resolution - Same deal
Editing settings.ini and manually setting x and y to 1024x600:
Stretched = 0 - Still in a window
Stretched = 1 - Its full screen now! BUT the edges are cut off and the text is all borked up in places like the options menu. Would not say the game is very playable in this state, as you can't even see important things like your hull meter or target all parts of enemy ships. Here's some screen shots:
FTL-fullscreen-netbook-1.jpg
FTL-fullscreen-netbook-2.jpg
Here's what I've been using in the meantime:

I have an FTL.bat file I run which does this:

@ECHO OFF
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
c:\qres /x:1152 /y:864
start steam://run/212680
pause
c:\qres /x:1024 /y:600
START %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe
exit

QRes is a little free console app that allows changing resolution from the command line. I kill explorer to get rid of the task bar (and free up resources). I can only change to 1152x864 after using a registry hack for Windows 7 netbooks: http://mobileoffice.about.com/od/netboo ... lution.htm

When I run this, my resolution changes and explorer is killed and the game loads up. I center the window but a bit gets cut off to either side (I line it up so the last part of the T and the L from FTL in the title bar is showing and it lets me see most everything that's needed - last couple points of your hull meter can't be seen but if your health is that low its not going to help much, and some ships the far right room's icon is not visible). I leave the dos box from the batch file open and behind the game window. When I quit the game, I just press any key in the dos window and it restores my resolution and re-opens explorer. Other than the slight cut-off on the side and big black borders above and below the game window it runs fine.

It runs decent. I have my no-name brand netbook (1.6ghz atom, 945gme chipset, GMA950(?), 1gb DDR2, 80gb HDD, Win7 32bit) connected to a 1680x1050 22" monitor running in extended mode in order to play this game. Besides the horrendous 3 minute loading time, the game runs decent. There is a very slight input lag with the mouse and the action is just a tiny bit slowed down but it is still completely playable. If they manage to decrease the resolution to fit the netbook and render at 1024x600 it should improve performance. Your N570 and GMA3150 should run this game with ease. Make sure you're running in high performance mode.

In Win7 at least, For best performance use with Aero enabled, or windows Classic mode. Do not turn off desktop composition/visual themes! This will make the game unplayable as the desktop is now rendered by the CPU, which on a netbook doesnt leave much CPU for anything else.

Hi,

Just wanted to add my support for the possibility of the game being run in a resolution for netbooks - would be fantastic.

Realise you are a very small team, so appreciate the time it would take to do this.

Thanks for a great game ( I can play it on another pc in the meantime)
