[LvlUpSkills] Skill Choices

Post by Das Keifer »

With the influx of new pilot level up skills, it can be a bit difficult to get a good pairing of skills. This mod will help solve that! Whether you just want a super powered vanilla skills pilot or some crazy modded skill combo, this mod is for you.

When you pilot levels up, a new UI with a number of choices will appear that you can select between. It defaults to 3 but is configurable up to all enabled skills so you can finally get that perfect build!

Current Version: 1.0.0 (part of my modpack)

I like the idea behind this mod. Here are a few features to make it even better while keeping the vanilla feeling:

* Default 3 skill choices on level up.
Do not offer skills that are duplicated or skills that are not usable for the current pilot.
* If none of the offered skills are interesting, add an optional "reroll" once per pilot.
*Number of choices should be configurable (2, 3, 4 or all available skills).
Skills added by other mods are automatically supported without extra configuration.

I think these additions would make it less frustrating but still keep the balance of the game and the excitement of leveling up.

The number of choices is configurable (which Das Keifer mentioned in their post), and AFAIK there's no reason it wouldn't already work for skills added by other mods since this is all working off Das Keifer's CPLUS framework (which is the only reason it's possible to add more level-up skills at all). Whether skills can be duplicated is also a setting in CPLUS+.

As far skills not usable for the current pilot, the CPLUS+ framework already has options for disabling skills (either globally or for specific pilots), and already automatically bans certain skills for certain pilots and for cyborgs with certain traits (e.g. flying cyborgs can't roll Jump Jets or Pontoons, nor can Prospero), but there are some limitations to what the mod can automatically detect in terms of "this skill won't be useful for this pilot." You can always adjust which skills are enabled yourself, of course (if you're playing with a modded cyborg squad, I encourage you to consider before starting a run if any skills will be useless for them; you don't want Electric Shamans' Living Battery rolling Jump Jets since its movement is too low to do much with it).
