"Slugs..." Lux remarked "My father said that they were just as bad as the Mantis were."
She started reading radiation warnings throughout the ship - it was a common myth that when a ship's life support failed, everyone began to suffocate. Most starships could sustain a crew for a few hours or even days without a life support system providing air. But what the system would also do is filter out dangerous stellar radiation and maintain the ship's heat levels. Without it, the ship's crew would be cooked. The Slug's Fire Beam didn't help matters either as that would definitely change your air supply calculations.
"Captain, my captain, since we don't have any power for life support right now, can we get it diverted to the medbay?" she requested "If we're running out of air, the equipment here might be our best chance of survival between being alive and being baked alive."

I find it silly that a ship in FTL can be drained of air that quickly in battle. Is there a constant leak somewhere on every ship? Calling it Life Support and having it do other things like filter out radiation and maybe stopping the reactor from overheating the interior. I dunno... does that work?

(makes some sense, also I mentioned we had 2 old lasers, one shot weapons, this is an old ship after all)

Bren frowned a bit noticing the other ship's beam canon activating

"No you don't" he thought firing both old lasers at the shields this time

When he saw their shields not come up he smirked, "alright then how about their life support" he called out, "Let em enjoy what they wanted to do to us!" he called out on the coms

To say the situation was nerve wracking is an understatement. Their very lives hung on the fact of weather or not WOL could purge the hostile code from the Oxygen system. Under such conditions, another in his place would most likely have caved in to all the pressure, but WOL knew his priorities and the consequences that would ensue should he fail, and he was determined to avert that possibility.

WOL calmly and methodically worked on deleting the code, knowing that any mistakes will cost them time, the most valuable commodity in this very moment. WOL could feel the oxygen draining from the air, his breathing growing heavier, how much longer until death comes to claim him- No, this isn't, nor will it ever be, the time for those thoughts to overcome him.

"It's almost done" said WOL, who managed to isolate and quarantine the virus with an insane degree of luck, the only thing left to do was to purge it. WOL executed a long string of commands, he took the briefest of moments to recoup, and finally the commands. The screen started blinking rapidly, and blacked out for a good 5 seconds, then zipped back in.

The screen returned to normal, the system hovered just above dangerous levels, but was slowly recovering. WOL leaned against the monitor, and rested for a good while. Once he'd recovered, he returned to the Engine room and relayed the news to the rest of the crew.

"Everyone, the 02 system has been purged, you no longer need to worry about it"

WOL switched off the intercom and sighed, he remembered that the slug cruiser was still circling them, by now they must've realized that their attempt failed, and that they have to engage in combat.

WOL let out yet another sigh, he just couldn't catch a break could he?

Idk, maybe the hack makes the o2 system work in reverse so it makes carbon monoxide or something?

The ship's air began to clear as the oxygen system returned to normal. Bren fired a couple more rounds and took out the slug's life support and shields, but in that time the slugs had repaired their weapons and charged the fire bomb. Kyrie didn't notice until she heard the telltale sound of a bomb materializing behind her.

She turned just in time to see it explode and send flaming liquid in all directions."We've got a fire in shields!" She pulled out the fire extinguisher, but found it empty like others. Inching along the wall, Kyrie got to the door but it wouldn't open. She pressed the button by the door and it opened half way. Smoke poured out of the room as the fire was quickly spreading I better get a medal for this. Her skin was streaked black from the soot, and she stepped out and tried to force the doors closed again.

The crash of a bomb echoed across the ship, somewhere far away.

Then... ZZZZZZZZZZ the Slugs fire beam cut down the length of the ship, knocking out the Engines completely, seconds before they would've been able to jump! WHAWHAWHA!!! Jake watched in horror as a small metal sphere materialized next to him. A light on it blinked red, before it erupted into flames, spewing flammable liquid all over the piloting system. (This is how I imagine fire bombs to work. They shoot out a flammable liquid and ignite that. Otherwise, fire doesn't burn on metal!) Jake ran out of the piloting room, coughing, only to find another burning room. "This is *cough* Jake..." Jake yelled into the nearby com unit. But then he realized that the LED on the com unit was off, and there was no click as he pressed the 'Talk' button. The coms were dead. Jake could only imagine that at least half the ship was on fire. It didn't matter if the 02 was hacked or not, if the ship was going up in flames. Ran through the ship, coughing wildly, before he was forced to crawl on the ground to avoid the smoke. He eventually reached the medbay, where he hooked his bleeding, burned, and bruised self to some of the medical equipment, before he fainted.

Bren could see flames begining to spread towards his room

"Note to self get better doors" he thought and he could see something on his scanner, a the munitions storage room on the slug's ship.

'Last shot" he thought aiming and firing before turning and grabbing a fire extinguisher and getting to work putting out the flames.

Over with the slugs.

"Sir their ship is in flames we can mov-"

There was a loud explosion as their fire muntions just went off, Bren's shot had hit their supplie of missile and bombs and they now had one choice.

"This is Kora of the Plumaga, we want to call out a cease fire, we are willing to send scrap and credits your way-" there was the sound of an explosion. As the captain wasn't in his seat and even if he was their coms were down, they got no answer.

Anyone who turned to the window after that plea for a cease fire saw the ship break apart.

These young Cadets had finally won their first real battle.

"Everything's on fire over here" Lux shouted over the comms, only to find that they too were dead on her end of the ship. Don't panic... don't panic... what did they do on the Hyena... she thought to herself as the roar of flames could be heard nearby to the Medbay.
Smoke poured into the room as someone had dashed in to avoid the flames. "Kyrie!" the doctor shouted to her "You look like you've been having more fun than I have. Jake's getting patched up as well"
She chuckled and looked to the red-hot doors. "I think I have an idea on how to deal with that fire... you remember what the Academy taught us about Door Control?"
Let's hope the Security Room isn't also on fire, she added to those thoughts.

"Vent... the... ship..." Jake managed to croak, smiling weakly before losing consciousness again.

Bren didn't have time to celebrate, he was working to keep the flames from hitting their weapon systems.

"Damn it when did they refill these things?" he thought as his body began to flicker and derez slightly as his physical form began to weaken thanks to the immense heat around him

Dancing around fires and coughing up a storm, Kyrie ran toward the weapon control. She found the way blocked off with fires, and headed toward the next best place: the medbay. One door was covered in flames and the other wasn't much better, but it opened.

Immediately Lux was there, asking if she remembered being taught about doors. "What? Yeah, but the door control's on the other side of the ship! And no I'm not having fun!" Just then Jake croaked out something about venting the ship. It seemed like Lux and him had the same idea. I guess it's the only thing to do.

From what I understand about the Kestrel layout we're basing the ship off of, the Medbay and Shields are next to each other while Weapons are further back. But then again this isn't Kestrel.

"If we vent the airlocks, that fire problem will be gone!" Lux declared happily as she saw a small explosion out one of the viewports "I'll need to stay here and keep the Captain stable. I don't trust this equipment to not turn against us and scrambles his insides like last week's breakfast."
She gave out a shrill, cheery laugh "Now that was a fun day!"

She tried to heft Jake up onto a medical table. "Try not to wake up too soon... Captain, my Captain."

"Captain, my Captain" is just a nickname Lux uses for Jake. Probably doesn't imply anything except maybe a taste in poetry.
