Federation insignia

Post by Auron1 »

I was wondering why no Federation ship has an insignia or something showing that they are a "good" ship in space except for their colors (light grey + orange lines); on the contrary, all Rebel ships (drones excluded) have it painted. That's the eagle with three letters around FYI.

I don't even know how the Galactic Federation insignia would look like, I can only think about other Federations (like in Star Trek, for example)...
Has anyone ever considered a Warhammer 40,000 Mod for this game? It would be awesome!

The Federation doesn't need a symbol to represent themselves when they fly through the galaxy.
Everyone knows of their deeds and values and they're very inclusive. You don't need to be represented by a symbol or insignia as you are your own person and unique. You ARE the Federation.

The Rebellion however wants people to know who they are and why they should be feared and respected. You are not a special snowflake, you are a soldier of the Rebellion. Everyone is to conform under the MFK or die.

At least that's my interpretation. Also, the Rebellion doesn't put the MFK on all of their ships either. Only the Elite Fighters and the Flagship. Since you don't encounter any Federation Elites, you don't see their insignia.

That's plain dull: everyone could disguise as a member of the Federation. Even dressing like a Fed. member or painting your ship should be enough to prove you do belong to the Federation.
Finally, any outpost, HQ, base or "official" building should have a flag with the Federation symbol: my point stands, there is currently nothing to ID someone as a Federation member, officer or high-officer.

Not even the case that the Federation is so big and widespread that you must know it is a valid point to say there is no need for a symbol; think about Warhammer 40,000, Star Trek or even Star Wars: despite all "organizations" are big and famous, they all have a symbol (the double-head eagle, the iconic ship and the imperial crest, a "six-spoked symbol".

Well, if you encounter a Federation outpost, HQ or official building that has a unit sprite, lemme know, OK? :P
Otherwise you have to infer from the text that the facility belongs to the Federation.

I'm just saying that the Rebel MFK is only painted on Elite Ships and the Flagship. The Federation probably lost all their elite ships and stuff before you got there so you don't see the insignia in-game. You also don't see any Rebel space stations in-game either so you can't argue that the insignia should be on all Federation space stations. Maybe it does have one but you just don't see it in-game.

Maybe the Federation insignia is the Kestrel? At least that's what's on the jacket I bought. Although it might just be a Kestrel crew jacket.
