Idea for expansion: Electronic Warfare System

I would love to see an expansion for this game with more stuff and especially more variety in ship systems. No matter what ship I start out with, in the end I always want a cloak, teleporter and drone subsystem. So here's an idea for an eventual expansion:

The Electronic Warfare System (EWS in short) is meant to be an alternative to the drone system. You cannot have it at the same time as the drone system. It lets you mount electronic warfare weapons such as:

- Missile Countermeasures: causes enemy missiles to miss most of the time. Less reliable than the defense drone against a single incoming missile but more reliable than the defense drone against multiple incoming missiles.

- Door Control Hacking Module: allows you to control doors on the enemy ship for a limited time. You'll be able to pass locked doors and doors will be locked for the enemy crew. This can be used to faciliate boarding parties or spread fires.

- Life Support Hacking Module: allows you to control the oxygen supply on the enemy ship for a limited time. You can increase oxygen flow to propagate fires more rapidly or vent oxygen to suffocate the enemy.

- Anti-Cloaking Pulse: applies ion damage to any active cloaking system (both that of your enemy and your own).

As an EE in the EWS industry, I agree! :)


How about this. You have an EW suite that has several capabilities. You can only enable as many of these capabilities as you have power to apply to them which is limited by the power slots you bought for the EW suite.

Each EW effect could have different levels of effectiveness which would require more power.

Missile Jamming
General targeting Jamming
FTL Jamming
Teleporter Jamming
Bomb Jamming
Life support hacking
Door Hacking
Shield hacking
etc

Or make it work like the weapon system, but it is context sensitive, so you get a different effect depending on which room you target. you gain temporary control of which ever syste, you target. The enemy can counter this if they have a crewman at the station. So, if you try to hack the weapons system, it will fail if they have a guy at the weapon controls. The more power you use in the EWS, the bigger systems you can hack. If your EWS has 3 bars of power, you can only hack systems with 3 power or less.


When the EWS is idle, it has a bonus evade vs missiles(counter measures) The power power, the bigger the chance(stacks with engine evade)

Switching between targets takes a long time. It will be is cooldown for about 20 seconds while it reconfigures to target a different room.
