NPC warp out question

I had an NPC FTL out of a fight with their cockpit in the red.
Did he just get a last minute repair off that I didn't see because he immediately warped?
I was under the impression that if either the cockpit or the engines are red FTL is not possible. At least that's how it works for the player ship.

Don't forget a Pilot in the cockpit. No Pilot, No FTL, unless it's an unmanned drone I guess..

I don't think I've had an encounter where a drone tried warp out on me. Drones still have cockpits and it seems like bringing them into the red does stop their ship judging by my accuracy, so I'm thinking that it would probably prevent warp as well.
But yeah, pilot in cockpit is 1 more requirement for FTL.
Still wondering if this rule applies to NPCs.

I've had automatic rebel scouts try to jump out to reveal my position.
I've also had an enemy ship jump out while my boarding team was assaulting their cockpit and killing their pilot. One would imagine that getting killed would be a little bit distracting from plotting a jump in FTL :p
(I know I had a warning that they were trying to jump out, but I'd like to get a last chance to port my team off if I'm ultimately unable to prevent it from jumping. Assuming my teleporter is recharged ofc.)

I agree, seems like if the pilot is in combat he should be distracted! Think I read an official post where they actually changed this to work the *opposite* way. Bummer.
Isn't that what auto-pilot is for?

Does Sensors rank 3 reveal this jump timer ?
if it doesn't maybe that could be useful so we can see when they're going to get away.

We're going to add some sort of indication if they enemy's about to jump, not 100% sure what yet though.
With the original question my only guess is that they repaired it and immediately jumped after. I'll have to look into it though.

I'll do you one better.. I had a ship jump to FTL, AS my two man boarding party killed the pilot, the last man of the enemy crew!
I got the "you killed everyone take the scrap" dialog box as the ship jumped away. So I got all the bonus, but lost my two man boarding party.
You think they could have just jumped back!

You let them out of your sight for a minute and they take off! You sure those weren't some of your "rescued" slaves?
