I came SO close to beating the game with the Taurus yesterday.

I had a pretty sexy build:
2 Ions
1 Breach Missile
2 Anti-Ship Drones
1 Defense Drone

Shields upgraded to 3

Shield Recharge upgrade
Drone recovery arm
Weapon reloader

And 7 very experienced crew members


I still wasn't sure if I had enough to kill the boss, so I spent some time flying around the last map gathering supplies, got some sorely needed missiles.

I then intercepted the boss right before he got to the base.

After an epic fight I had him down to one or two hull. His shields were on fire and I was about to hit him with a breach missile...

And he FTL's out! To my base, which was 1 jump away!!!
GAME OVER!

Next time I will be sure to get his engines/cockpit down before going in for the kill. Agh!

This might be a ***SPOILER*** but:
Are you sure you had the boss almost beaten? Was it the third stage? It's hardcoded to teleport away two times before you can finnish it finally, and I don't think taking down the bridge will prevent that from happening.

Interesting though that it FTL'ed to your base... since it FTLs away two times for certain, that puts a new perspective on things and makes me realize there's even less time to intercept the boss on the final sector because if you only catch it 2 nodes away you pretty much lost and can go ahead and reroll.

That won't work.

[spoiler]Its a 3 part fight and the rebel boss ship will always jump away. It didn't have 1 hull left you actually killed it. It will lose its left segment, jump away and gain a new ability. The rebel ship will jump away even if you destroy the engines.[/spoiler]

Hmm so I have to engage him sufficiently far out from the base, that is really good to know.

seems the flag ship will use its warpout tog et closer to your base so if you haven't hit it at least 3 jumps from your base then you've already lost , which kinda sucks
