Subset Games Forum

So most people know that luck can be a fairly major factor in FTL (Sometimes, with bad luck it can be impossible to finish the game), but I have never had bad luck like this before...

So I am just into the second sector as the Zoltan Type B, and hop to my first area and...
I am against a slug ship with a heavy laser (not sure which type), burst laser mark II, 2 shields and I get boarded by a human, a slug, an engi and a zoltan right at the start of the fight. I still only have 3 zoltan crew (never found any crew or shops with crew available), making this a very difficult fight. I manage to get through it but lost about 25% of my hull.
Next sector I go up against a mantis ship with one shield this time (thank god), burst laser mark II and a small bomb launcher. I also get boarded by 3 mantis as soon as the fight begins. "It's going to be a pain in the ass but not TOO bad" I'm thinking to myself... Shortly after that I get boarded by 2 more mantis and its now 5 mantis vs 3 zoltan.
I finished that fight with such little hull (and 1 crew member) that I quit the game.

Anyone else like to share their stories of terrible luck? I simply wasn't expecting such brutal battles at the start of sector TWO. Insane...

EDIT: I don't know if this forums is anti-adverstisement, but I am not advertising, just didn't want to repost my bad luck story, as other forums I have been on get very mad at reporters.

The only way you could beat 5 mantis with 3 zoltan provided you have level 1 doors is if you vent the whole ship and fight in the medbay, but then you wouldn't be able to send anyone out to do repairs. If you vent the ship like that 3 of the mantis should end up running into the medbay before long, and the other 2 would die from lack of air before too long.

That is what I ended up doing. Unfortunately one of the first things they took out was my O2 supply. Only 1 zoltan was left at the end of the battle, and my hull was below 25%

Thankfully my next run went much better
