Out of all the random encounters I have had while playing this game (Rebel cargo ship in Sector 2 carrying a Glaive Beam comes to mind), this encounter takes the cake:

There are other encounters that similarly just give you a weapon and loot without any options. Most of them say something about it being given to you by federation loyalists. They tend to be particularly common at exit beacons.

my absolute favorite is the nice group of homesteaders that give you a pre-igniter just for being a good chap and killing a scrummy 6hp drone that had a ion blast and a crappy missile.

This event text is one of my favourites.

My best was in section 1 or 2, a rebel ship surrendered and offered a Weapon Pre-Igniter! No screenie of it though, didn't think to do that.

End of sector one, you pass by a friendly space station, and tell them you're running from the rebel fleet.

They give you a glaive beam.

Kinda off-topic, but how can I take a screen shot? whenever I click PrtSc (print screen) I get the start-up loading screen image for some reason (I use full-screen).

Once I got a free scrap recovery arm the first jump, an ion blast 1 the second jump, and a burst laser 2 the third jump. In the second sector I got 3 more free weapons, including pegasus missile and ion bomb. It gave me several more free weapons in the rest of the run, and I set a record of 16 crew hired with all the free crew it gave me. I bought a weapon pre-igniter from a store that run, went to the crystal sector (thanks to the fact I was using the crystal ship), and repeated the slug unlock quest.

I've had the "random weapon floating in space" be a glaive beam before. Twice. I also just got one from giving a random rock 3 fuel.
Which is... 9 scrap?

For a 120 scrap weapon?

I think I got this one before too, which was how I first got to use the Glaive Beam. New favorite weapon. This plus a good ion gun/bomb to take care of the shields = massive fun times.
