IOS Save Transfer Bug Fixed?

Back a while ago the devs of FTL said they would try to fix the save transfer issues with IOS blocking the feature in 2016

Was this ever actually fixed? I want to buy an iPad to play my FTL save, but if this doesn't work I might not pick one up.

Unfortunately it turned out that if we were to take the changes necessary to make save transfers work with iPad that we would end up violating some of Apple's rules for apps on the App Store, and so I'm afraid it is not possible for the time being.

Although that's really disappointing, thanks for being upfront about it.
Is there any way to backup a save on an iPad? I haven't had success with iCloud, although I've heard that the game supports it. Can you confirm if it should support backing up to iCloud?
