Considering that you couldn't afford either... it's not much of a hard choice is it?
But if you did have to make one, I'd go for the Engi if you're not planning on getting a teleporter and the Mantis if you are. Boulders & Blades makes for a good combo but Blades & Blades is probably for the best.
