Online Multiplayer Mode Idea

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants multiplayer for FTL. some people probably want PvP and such somehow but it sounds too broad. I'm not sure if it'd be possible (correct me if I'm wrong).
The way I could see it working or at least what I would enjoy most (correct me if this isn't possible) is something I would like to see in The Binding of Isaac too.
Have a way to see each others screen. This would allow us to race each other. If we also had a way of doing seeded runs we could find a way of doing something similar to the Balls of Steel races.
What do you guys think?
