FTL: Faster Than Light Lags HORRIBLY...?

I've recently purchased FTL and the game just won't stop lagging. When I load up the game, the mouse probably moves at 1FPS. I can barely start the game! Is there anyway to remove the lag?

Any further details? Like don't post your entire computer specs, just what sort of computer you're running (how much RAM, are you using Windows 10, etc?), what programs are you using at the same time, did you reset your computer, reinstall the game...
"The game lags" isn't much to go by.
