Quite simply, is this always a con?
or can you sometimes get a good weapon out of it?

Does having a slug on-board alter the outcome? if so, how?

You can get any weapon, bar the "secret" ones and the ones on boss ships

I got a glaive the only time I did it. so that was a huge win.

It simply picks a weapon from the ALL_WEAPONS list, which contains all player-obtainable weaons.
Since the average value of these weapons however is below 65 scrap AND there is a chance he will not give you anything, I rather prefer to shoot him, scrap his ship and then use that metal to buy something on the next store

I will alter this in AW, providing Weapon Dealers with actually rare / unobtainable weapons.

I dont remeber if this was a black market trader or not but some guy was like. Hey this is a dangerous place to be without weapons(or some such nonsense) want to buy one? Only 65 scrap! And i said SURE! and he said haha sucks to be you i told you this place was dangerous! He didnt give me a weapon...Then i killed him and got back a woping 25 scrap. WERE IS THE SCRAP I JUST GAVE HIM!
