Suggestion: Captains Log

The beautiful thing about this game are the stories that develop, and it seems like those stories could be preserved at the end of the game.
Basically, it would be cool if there was a "Captain's Log" that was automatically maintained with major events during the game. Systems that were visiting, items bought and sold and found, fights, deaths, new members, etc.
Just an idea.

I don't know if a Captain Log would be easy to implement (story the data, not too hard, making a good interface to browse them, less easy), but any way to save and remember more details about past runs would be awesome. Just the characteristics of the ship at the start of its last battle would be great (crew, cargo, weapons, stats, etc.).

To be honest I was very suprised not to see something like that at the end. I haven't really played a lot of roguelikes, but I played some and everyone had detailed log at the end. It's part of the magic.
It would be so nice to have it - some statistics are already tracked for the stats page. Just add some more and you have it.

And/or add a notepad people can type their own log into.
I think this would be an interesting Idea vastly increasing the game's depth :3
f.e. if the game simply has a button (only accessible when ship is out of danger), automatically calculates a semi-random star time (basing on the amount of sectors you crossed, thus your entries are chronologically ordered) and permit the player to simply enter whatever they see fit. Whole log would be offered upon Game Over (and eventually stored into a txt file or something).

This feature was pretty cool in Space Empires IV. But that was a long and involved game, with many things going on at the same time. So you could write about the various planets and struggles, and plans for the future.
They tried an automated log/story thing in Galactic Civilizations II. Did you find the automatically generated logs interesting?
So try this: Open Notepad and just type up a couple sentences for the story each turn. When you get done with this journal, check out what you wrote.
