First, I assume you're playing on Easy. If not, why aren't you playing Easy if you think the game is too hard?

I've played less than 20 total games now, but I just won my 5th game on Easy in a row without ever dying in-between - and I used a different ship every time. It doesn't take good luck to win - it takes using what you get wisely and making the best of both bad and good situations.

When you feel like you got screwed by the game, take a step back and look at the situation closely. What could you have done to handle the situation better? What else could you try instead? What else could you have bought/upgraded earlier that would've changed things?
