Suggestion: Crew Member Hotkeys

My only little nit-pick with an otherwise great game; weapons have hotkeys and can be drag/dropped to put in order of preference. Why not Crew?

I'd also like to drag n' drop them for that post-battle "back to yer stations" moment. I already use my 1st guy on the list as captain, 2nd shield, 3rd engine etc. but sometimes one dies or what not, and just gets confusing. An easy fix would be to allow us to rename our crew, like you can do in the hangar with your first 1-4 guys. Not only does it make things easier, it's more fun too!

I agree to both, someone posted a hotkey support in the forums with it, I have yet to try it out but will soon http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2052

That's a great idea, and something I would really like to see. It's a shame that you can't transfer skills over to a more appropriate crew member either - if I have a Mantis who's been my engineer, but I suddenly get an Engi or Zoltan, I'm going to want to free him up to fight off boarders or whatever.

Why in the world would skills transfer?

For that matter, why in god's name would you have a Mantis engineer? (Or did you mean the guy who mans the engines, not the repair guy?)


Freeing your Mantis up to your boarding party is simple; have him walk over to the teleport pad and chill on it. So his skill points won't be being used - he's still incredibly better in the boarding party than anyone else.

I usually put my fourth crew member on engines, so that'll be whomever comes along first.

I just want some way to give a new crew member a little edge if a more experienced crew member is going to have a new role. I also saw somebody suggest additional crew getting 1.5 exp for "helping out" in a system room already manned by a veteran. There would be a few ways of going about that, but I feel it really would be useful for unskilled new crew to be able to gain ranks faster.

I would also like to comment that the weapon hotkeys should be different from the choices hotkeys.
I do not know how many times I have agreed to their surrender while selecting 1,2 for selecting a weapon >.>

Hmm... tried out the .exe... every time I tried to press 'q' 'w' 'e' or any other buttons my mouse would freeze in the top left corner and just blink.
