This game is really hard. I don't define easy mode as: 1. Fight several vessels and upgrade equipment. 2.Find out that you would never have enough to repair your ship. 3.Die in the next sector.

To not freaking die in easy mode. I though easy mode you were supposed to be able to get through without dying.

Well, you thought wrongly.

In easy mode you die slightly less quickly than normal mode. That doesn't mean you should expect to win or anything.

And now I search through the forums to find cheats that work.

This game is very hard, even on easy. I'd recommend looking at the guides or just playing it a lot to figure out how to play. There is no guaranteed way to win.

You have to realize, a roque-like is all about making mistakes and learning from said mistakes, so that you can avoid those mistakes the next time. Once you play for a few hours, you should have a good grasp on how not to die and then Easy mode becomes real easy. Just keep in mind there's some luck involved, so you may simply become unlucky at some point. But Easy mode gives you loads of Scrap, which means your chances of dying to random events becomes much smaller, unless you screw up.

Easy mode is mostly about your own skill. Normal mode is all about luck.

I fear the philosophy of rogue-likes is lost on the 'instant gratification' generation.

I'm really genuinely shocked by how many complain about this games difficulty and how random the game is. Both of these are huge pluses for me -- in fact they are primary draws.

Perhaps it is partly a generational thing indeed. Most games are too easy these days IMHO. I personally find most modern game completely uninteresting because they are way too easy and because they have little death penalties. Like Skyrim for instance, I found much more enjoyable playing it without using potions at all, and not using the instant travel mechanism (ya I'm a freak I admit it).

I find FTL not very challenging now (admittedly after like 25 hours or so). With about half the ships I can win pretty much every game and I don't find the boss all that hard to kill anymore. Not to mention the boss can be beat with a wide variety of equipment and strategies.

You have to remember zabbo2 that the people who are enjoying the game aren't making threads about it on the forums. The most displeased people are always the most vocal.
