Haven't played FTL in ages, saw the Advanced Edition update aaaaaaand
I'm hooked

So after a few runs of horrible dying, I tried the Osprey...
Halfway through the run, I suddenly thought, Wait a minute, since when could I install cloak on Osprey?"

Is this a new AE feature, or is it a bug?

My guess is a random event gave it to you, and that event is a workaround for Fed cruisers to get cloaking.

Since they added hacking and mind control, they set an eight-system limit on ships so you can't buy them all. They probably decided to remove the no cloaking restriction from the Federation cruisers since the eight-system limit will prevent you from getting too many things.

So now the Osprey is really really good XD
Cloak... FIRE ZE ATERERY BUEAM MUHAHAHAHAHAHA

Just wait until you also get a Zoltan shield...

Speaking of nasty combos, there's a subsystem accessory thing (I always forget their name) which makes it so your drones/hacking unit can not be countered by enemy defense mechanism.
Assuming you have level 3 hacking on their weapon systems, and a level 3 cloaking device, do baddies have any chance to ever shoot at you unless they have attack drones or something with a very fast charge up time? If there's still a window of opportunity, imagine adding a shield drone to that mix.

Of course all this wont be very useful for the actual flagship.

I find that a Cloaking ability for an Osprey is useful when fighting the Rebel flagship. Cloaking means that you can dodge particularly nasty-looking barrages during the fight.
