Ipad version sound question

Loving this game on ipad... Actually managed to complete it a couple of times, which I was never able to do on pc 
Quick question, can anyone confirm if the sound in the ipad version only works through headphones or if have encountered a bug?
Tried reinstalling, which lost my Rock ship
but still the same.
If anyone can let me know either way I'd really appreciate it!
