I've bought the game recently, done 16 runs by now. Fought the boss 5 times, beaten twice. All on easy.

I've yet to unlock the Rock&Stealth cruisers.

But Crystal cruiser was the 3rd ship I unlocked after Engi and Zoltan. I've encountered the damaged pot 6 times (twice in a single run), crash into the Zoltan research facility twice a run, and the third spot is a quest marker anyways.

You don't even need to unlock the rock cruiser (although it gives an achievement I think). I know, I haven't.

How's this thing even considered rare?

Well you sheer amount of dumb lucky is just through the roof. I have hundreds of hours put into game, several times more games than that and not in a single one I was able to get the pod, get the research station and get rock homeworld in the same run... The cruiser is just insanelly hard to get, you need to have a huge amount of luck or just cheat to get it.

I got it fast as well, but it does need a lot of luck.

I didn't get mine until after I completed the whole game on every other ship on easy and normal first multiple times (well some ships I never bothered to beyond the first). All the while nabbing that stupid stasis pod every time I found it, AND being unable to wear a 3rd subsystem because I had to keep that stupid pod several times.

It's easier now than before though because the final step where you need to find that wormhole in the rock homeworks? Now it says "Quest".. before it didn't.. you just had to blindly warp around and hope you got lucky with it.

I played once more with engi cruiser and got to the secret sector once more. The only thing i did was to keep chasing civilian sectors after i got the statis pod.

Btw crystal B is very easy until flagship but i found it too hard with flagship phase 3.

I played 20 games straight with Tektite that starts with a crystal crew so you can skip the first couple steps ; not once did I find a Rock Homeworld.

It's weird I actually got the Crystal Cruiser trying to unlock the Shivan.

I had like 2 Bulwark runs with 2 encounters of the damaged Stasis pod, one of which I chose the weapon. After no luck of unlocking the "Is it warm in here?" achievement, I went into the Crystal homeworlds really surprised at unlocking both the Shivan and Crystal..

I have probably played somewhere over 1500 hours and 505 games and 142 wins and haven't unlocked the Crystal cruiser via the quest route even once.

Yeah. I'm only at about 70 hrs.
In fact it was in 2 games where I got the statis pod distress signal twice. About 3 more where I chose the weapons over it.
Pretty lucky I guess.

Took me a bit of time on the PC version. The beacon at the end was at the top part of the map, the exit beacon at the bottom without an obvious link. Had to do a bit of backtracking but I made it out before the Rebels got me.

Got it the first time on an iPad run with the Bulwark. Everything fell into place rather quickly.
