So I was playing as the Osprey hoping for a defensive artillery beam loadout at the end.Instead the game just decided to give me everything to curb stomp the final boss by sector 3, and then decided to make me even more powerful to the point that nothing could stand in my way.
So I started out with the normal loadout for the Osprey but in the first sector I got another burst laser mkII from an event. now while this was good I tended to keep taking damage still and almost every ship I came across seemed to have missile launcher. So then is sector 2 I get a weapon pre igniter from an event. so now I have easily destroyed most of the ships I come across with out to much damage and along the way I got an ion-bomb so nothing could keep their weapons online unless they had a cloak, after a while I found another burst laser mkII in a shop but lacking scrap had to sell my bomb to afford it. by the time I got to the boss most of my main systems were full or nearly upgraded, I barely took any damage from the boss and destroyed him insanely quickly.

anyone else ever have a game like this?

I've had a run where the game threw two mkII lasers at me along with a mkIII on the kestrel
I wasn't lucky enough to stumble upon a pre igniter though( I was maxed with around 300+ spare scrap)

I consider myself a veteran, I've played for more than 500 hours. I've had my share of luck and failure, but I lost my mind one time playing FTL, in the B Crystal ship Carnelian. I was playing in my favorite ship one day, when I found a mark II burst laser floating in space! Just one of these lasers combined with a crystal boarding crew can almost guarantee victory. But my luck didn't stop there. Another event, and a store brought me up too the same kind of firepower you had. I've never had three Mrk II's before, and never again since. Hoping into the rocky homeworlds in sector seven. The crystal ships are my favorite ships, because if you find the rock homeworlds, you can complete the last leg of the crystal unlock for free. There in the bonus sector. I continued to cavort about, wreaking havoc. I even found a fourth crystal crew member, to complete my boarding crew. All things come to a close though, and so, with a ship fully upgraded (I mean Fully), I came to the last stand. I fought my way all the way up to the boss, but Right before I made the jump to the Flagship, I stopped off at one last store, to sell all my booty. It was there, in the top left corner of the interface, I saw the most glorious thing in the universe. A fourth mark II burst laser, pristine and ready for action. The Rebels didn't stand a chance. I slowly slaughtered their crew with my men, while keeping a full volley of twelve shots ready to fire. I Killed everyone in the ship room by room by locking them in with my crystals so that they couldn't escape to heal, and teleporting them back and forth so my men could regenerate and heal. Once every person but one was dead, I fired with everything I had, again and again. in twenty seconds they jumped away. I killed the next two iterations without even taking any damage. High score!

I haven't played much yet (I haven't looked, but I'd be surprised if I had like 10 hours), but recently I had my single best run ever. I'd chalk it up to the fact that almost every section was a Civilian quadrant. I managed to take a screenshot of my ship and my crew as well! Only, it wouldn't be FTL if everything I knew and loved came crashing down around me as soon as possible. The very next turn after I took this screenshot I ran into a Rebel ship which blasted me apart like I was nothing more than glorified space debris.
